About
The Fast and Fair Renewables Award aims to recognise and celebrate renewable energy projects that prove that the speed of energy transition goes hand-in-hand with social justice, environmental stewardship, and genuine community engagement. It is steered by the Fast and Fair renewables and grid initiative that gathers a wide variety of actors relevant to renewable projects implementation. The projects awarded will thus embody the notion that cooperation across stakeholders is needed to advance together in decarbonising the energy system whilst making it more affordable and beneficial for all. The award spotlights projects that reflect the five Fast & Fair principles that have been agreed upon by different sectoral stakeholders: local influence, local value, transparency, nature positivity and community-led initiatives empowerment.
Hosted at the annual conference of Wind Europe, which took place in Madrid (Spain) from 21-23 April 2026, the first edition of the Fast and Fair award focused on wind-generated power, seeking out projects that are reimagining how wind energy can be planned, built, and implemented. The objectives of the award are:
- To celebrate outstanding projects that put the principles into practice.
- To identify leading examples that can be scaled or replicated across contexts.
- To reinforce multi-stakeholder collaboration as a key enabler of effective and inclusive renewable energy solutions.
- To build political consensus around the need to mainstream the Fast and Fair principles in all projects
